In 2019, Australia experienced its most devastating wildfires. The fires caused numerous fatalities, significant loss of wildlife, destruction of structures and resulted in hazardous air quality for its citizens.

The damage from Australia’s fires was 1.5 times the damage of the 2018 California wildfires and more than three times as much as the Amazon wildfires in 2019. The wildfires could be seen by satellites in orbit.

With the help of generous donors, EIF provided support for NSW Rural Fire Service, The World Wildlife Fund, and the Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal.

On February 29, 2019, FOX aired “Fire Fight Australia,” hosted by Grammy Award winner Olivia Newton-John, with musical performances by Queen + Adam Lambert, Michael Bublé, 5SOS, Alice Cooper, k.d. lang, and 5 Seconds of Summer. All proceeds benefited The Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal, an organization working on the ground with Australian communities affected by disaster, supporting them to rebuild.
